1. As the editor, I originally intended for the Journal to be open access or free. However, the Journal has proven to be a vastly more time-consuming and costly endeavor than I anticipated. After spending the better part of the last three years researching, writing, producing educational videos, building a website, and attending schools and clinics, I slowly came to the realization that the Journal will not continue if I go broke in the process, or lose motivation from shouldering the entire financial burden. Therefore, I reluctantly decided to charge a modest fee per issue to help defray costs. I say "modest" because, for example, the online journal, Applied Animal Behaviour Science, charges $31.50 per article.
